Direct Access
Under the Bar Council’s new Direct Access scheme, in certain cases Barristers may now take instructions from clients without involving a solicitor.
Criminal, family and immigration cases are prohibited, but in other areas you can now gain access to a highly trained legal specialist without paying solicitors fees as well.
Barristers are not permitted to handle clients’ money or perform certain other duties, but if necessary a solicitor can be appointed to work alongside them, still reducing fees.
